Feline Coronavirus (FCoV) is a common viral infection found in cats worldwide. In the vast majority of cases, FCoV causes mild or no symptoms. However, in a small percentage of cases — estimated at between 5% and 10% — FCoV can mutate within an individual cat to cause Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a serious and historically fatal disease.
FCoV spreads primarily through faecal-oral contact, making multi-cat households and breeding catteries particularly susceptible. Many breeders either do not test for FCoV or simply accept its presence as inevitable. We do not.
